¹Now the Lᴏʀᴅ spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered profane fire before the Lᴏʀᴅ, and died; ²and the Lᴏʀᴅ said to Moses: “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at just any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark, lest he die; for I will appear in the cloud above the mercy seat. ³Thus Aaron shall come into the Holy Place: with the blood of a young bull as a sin offering, and of a ram as a burnt offering. ⁴He shall put the holy linen tunic and the linen trousers on his body; he shall be girded with a linen sash, and with the linen turban he shall be attired. These are holy garments. Therefore he shall wash his body in water, and put them on. ⁵And he shall take from the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats as a sin offering, and one ram as a burnt offering. ⁶“Aaron shall offer the bull as a sin offering, which is for himself, and make atonement for himself and for his house. ⁷He shall take the two goats and present them before the Lᴏʀᴅ at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. ⁸Then Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats: one lot for the Lᴏʀᴅ and the other lot for the scapegoat. ⁹And Aaron shall bring the goat on which the Lᴏʀᴅ’s lot fell, and offer it as a sin offering. ¹⁰But the goat on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat shall be presented alive before the Lᴏʀᴅ, to make atonement upon it, and to let it go as the scapegoat into the wilderness. ¹¹“And Aaron shall bring the bull of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make atonement for himself and for his house, and shall kill the bull as the sin offering which is for himself. ¹²Then he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from the altar before the Lᴏʀᴅ, with his hands full of sweet incense beaten fine, and bring it inside the veil. ¹³And he shall put the incense on the fire before the Lᴏʀᴅ, that the cloud of incense may cover the mercy seat that is on the Testimony, lest he die. ¹⁴He shall take some of the blood of the bull and sprinkle it with his finger on the mercy seat on the east side; and before the mercy seat he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times. ¹⁵“Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering, which is for the people, bring its blood inside the veil, do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the mercy seat and before the mercy seat. ¹⁶So he shall make atonement for the Holy Place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions, for all their sins; and so he shall do for the tabernacle of meeting which remains among them in the midst of their uncleanness. ¹⁷There shall be no man in the tabernacle of meeting when he goes in to make atonement in the Holy Place, until he comes out, that he may make atonement for himself, for his household, and for all the assembly of Israel. ¹⁸And he shall go out to the altar that is before the Lᴏʀᴅ, and make atonement for it, and shall take some of the blood of the bull and some of the blood of the goat, and put it on the horns of the altar all around. ¹⁹Then he shall sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times, cleanse it, and consecrate it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel. ²⁰“And when he has made an end of atoning for the Holy Place, the tabernacle of meeting, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat. ²¹Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, confess over it all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, concerning all their sins, putting them on the head of the goat, and shall send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a suitable man. ²²The goat shall bear on itself all their iniquities to an uninhabited land; and he shall release the goat in the wilderness. ²³“Then Aaron shall come into the tabernacle of meeting, shall take off the linen garments which he put on when he went into the Holy Place, and shall leave them there. ²⁴And he shall wash his body with water in a holy place, put on his garments, come out and offer his burnt offering and the burnt offering of the people, and make atonement for himself and for the people. ²⁵The fat of the sin offering he shall burn on the altar. ²⁶And he who released the goat as the scapegoat shall wash his clothes and bathe his body in water, and afterward he may come into the camp. ²⁷The bull for the sin offering and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the Holy Place, shall be carried outside the camp. And they shall burn in the fire their skins, their flesh, and their offal. ²⁸Then he who burns them shall wash his clothes and bathe his body in water, and afterward he may come into the camp. ²⁹“This shall be a statute forever for you: In the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether a native of your own country or a stranger who dwells among you. ³⁰For on that day the priest shall make atonement for you, to cleanse you, that you may be clean from all your sins before the Lᴏʀᴅ. ³¹It is a sabbath of solemn rest for you, and you shall afflict your souls. It is a statute forever. ³²And the priest, who is anointed and consecrated to minister as priest in his father’s place, shall make atonement, and put on the linen clothes, the holy garments; ³³then he shall make atonement for the Holy Sanctuary, and he shall make atonement for the tabernacle of meeting and for the altar, and he shall make atonement for the priests and for all the people of the assembly. ³⁴This shall be an everlasting statute for you, to make atonement for the children of Israel, for all their sins, once a year.” And he did as the Lᴏʀᴅ commanded Moses.

¹To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. ²Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. ³There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard. ⁴Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun, ⁵Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, And rejoices like a strong man to run its race. ⁶Its rising is from one end of heaven, And its circuit to the other end; And there is nothing hidden from its heat. ⁷The law of the Lᴏʀᴅ is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lᴏʀᴅ is sure, making wise the simple; ⁸The statutes of the Lᴏʀᴅ are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lᴏʀᴅ is pure, enlightening the eyes; ⁹The fear of the Lᴏʀᴅ is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lᴏʀᴅ are true and righteous altogether. ¹⁰More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. ¹¹Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward. ¹²Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. ¹³Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression. ¹⁴Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lᴏʀᴅ, my strength and my Redeemer.

¹The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, his utterance. This man declared to Ithiel—to Ithiel and Ucal: ²Surely I am more stupid than any man, And do not have the understanding of a man. ³I neither learned wisdom Nor have knowledge of the Holy One. ⁴Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son’s name, If you know? ⁵Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. ⁶Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar. ⁷Two things I request of You (Deprive me not before I die): ⁸Remove falsehood and lies far from me; Give me neither poverty nor riches— Feed me with the food allotted to me; ⁹Lest I be full and deny You, And say, “Who is the Lᴏʀᴅ?” Or lest I be poor and steal, And profane the name of my God. ¹⁰Do not malign a servant to his master, Lest he curse you, and you be found guilty. ¹¹There is a generation that curses its father, And does not bless its mother. ¹²There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes, Yet is not washed from its filthiness. ¹³There is a generation—oh, how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are lifted up. ¹⁴There is a generation whose teeth are like swords, And whose fangs are like knives, To devour the poor from off the earth, And the needy from among men. ¹⁵The leech has two daughters— Give and Give! There are three things that are never satisfied, Four never say, “Enough!”: ¹⁶The grave, The barren womb, The earth that is not satisfied with water— And the fire never says, “Enough!” ¹⁷The eye that mocks his father, And scorns obedience to his mother, The ravens of the valley will pick it out, And the young eagles will eat it. ¹⁸There are three things which are too wonderful for me, Yes, four which I do not understand: ¹⁹The way of an eagle in the air, The way of a serpent on a rock, The way of a ship in the midst of the sea, And the way of a man with a virgin. ²⁰This is the way of an adulterous woman: She eats and wipes her mouth, And says, “I have done no wickedness.” ²¹For three things the earth is perturbed, Yes, for four it cannot bear up: ²²For a servant when he reigns, A fool when he is filled with food, ²³A hateful woman when she is married, And a maidservant who succeeds her mistress. ²⁴There are four things which are little on the earth, But they are exceedingly wise: ²⁵The ants are a people not strong, Yet they prepare their food in the summer; ²⁶The rock badgers are a feeble folk, Yet they make their homes in the crags; ²⁷The locusts have no king, Yet they all advance in ranks; ²⁸The spider skillfully grasps with its hands, And it is in kings’ palaces. ²⁹There are three things which are majestic in pace, Yes, four which are stately in walk: ³⁰A lion, which is mighty among beasts And does not turn away from any; ³¹A greyhound, A male goat also, And a king whose troops are with him. ³²If you have been foolish in exalting yourself, Or if you have devised evil, put your hand on your mouth. ³³For as the churning of milk produces butter, And wringing the nose produces blood, So the forcing of wrath produces strife.

¹Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope, ²To Timothy, a true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord. ³As I urged you when I went into Macedonia—remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, ⁴nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith. ⁵Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith, ⁶from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk, ⁷desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm. ⁸But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully, ⁹knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, ¹⁰for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine, ¹¹according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust. ¹²And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry, ¹³although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. ¹⁴And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. ¹⁵This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. ¹⁶However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life. ¹⁷Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. ¹⁸This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, ¹⁹having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck, ²⁰of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.
