¹Now the Lᴏʀᴅ spoke to Moses, saying, ²“Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘When a man consecrates by a vow certain persons to the Lᴏʀᴅ, according to your valuation, ³if your valuation is of a male from twenty years old up to sixty years old, then your valuation shall be fifty shekels of silver, according to the shekel of the sanctuary. ⁴If it is a female, then your valuation shall be thirty shekels; ⁵and if from five years old up to twenty years old, then your valuation for a male shall be twenty shekels, and for a female ten shekels; ⁶and if from a month old up to five years old, then your valuation for a male shall be five shekels of silver, and for a female your valuation shall be three shekels of silver; ⁷and if from sixty years old and above, if it is a male, then your valuation shall be fifteen shekels, and for a female ten shekels. ⁸But if he is too poor to pay your valuation, then he shall present himself before the priest, and the priest shall set a value for him; according to the ability of him who vowed, the priest shall value him. ⁹‘If it is an animal that men may bring as an offering to the Lᴏʀᴅ, all that anyone gives to the Lᴏʀᴅ shall be holy. ¹⁰He shall not substitute it or exchange it, good for bad or bad for good; and if he at all exchanges animal for animal, then both it and the one exchanged for it shall be holy. ¹¹If it is an unclean animal which they do not offer as a sacrifice to the Lᴏʀᴅ, then he shall present the animal before the priest; ¹²and the priest shall set a value for it, whether it is good or bad; as you, the priest, value it, so it shall be. ¹³But if he wants at all to redeem it, then he must add one-fifth to your valuation. ¹⁴‘And when a man dedicates his house to be holy to the Lᴏʀᴅ, then the priest shall set a value for it, whether it is good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall stand. ¹⁵If he who dedicated it wants to redeem his house, then he must add one-fifth of the money of your valuation to it, and it shall be his. ¹⁶‘If a man dedicates to the Lᴏʀᴅ part of a field of his possession, then your valuation shall be according to the seed for it. A homer of barley seed shall be valued at fifty shekels of silver. ¹⁷If he dedicates his field from the Year of Jubilee, according to your valuation it shall stand. ¹⁸But if he dedicates his field after the Jubilee, then the priest shall reckon to him the money due according to the years that remain till the Year of Jubilee, and it shall be deducted from your valuation. ¹⁹And if he who dedicates the field ever wishes to redeem it, then he must add one-fifth of the money of your valuation to it, and it shall belong to him. ²⁰But if he does not want to redeem the field, or if he has sold the field to another man, it shall not be redeemed anymore; ²¹but the field, when it is released in the Jubilee, shall be holy to the Lᴏʀᴅ, as a devoted field; it shall be the possession of the priest. ²²And if a man dedicates to the Lᴏʀᴅ a field which he has bought, which is not the field of his possession, ²³then the priest shall reckon to him the worth of your valuation, up to the Year of Jubilee, and he shall give your valuation on that day as a holy offering to the Lᴏʀᴅ. ²⁴In the Year of Jubilee the field shall return to him from whom it was bought, to the one who owned the land as a possession. ²⁵And all your valuations shall be according to the shekel of the sanctuary: twenty gerahs to the shekel. ²⁶‘But the firstborn of the animals, which should be the Lᴏʀᴅ’s firstborn, no man shall dedicate; whether it is an ox or sheep, it is the Lᴏʀᴅ’s. ²⁷And if it is an unclean animal, then he shall redeem it according to your valuation, and shall add one-fifth to it; or if it is not redeemed, then it shall be sold according to your valuation. ²⁸‘Nevertheless no devoted offering that a man may devote to the Lᴏʀᴅ of all that he has, both man and beast, or the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed; every devoted offering is most holy to the Lᴏʀᴅ. ²⁹No person under the ban, who may become doomed to destruction among men, shall be redeemed, but shall surely be put to death. ³⁰And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lᴏʀᴅ’s. It is holy to the Lᴏʀᴅ. ³¹If a man wants at all to redeem any of his tithes, he shall add one-fifth to it. ³²And concerning the tithe of the herd or the flock, of whatever passes under the rod, the tenth one shall be holy to the Lᴏʀᴅ. ³³He shall not inquire whether it is good or bad, nor shall he exchange it; and if he exchanges it at all, then both it and the one exchanged for it shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.’ ” ³⁴These are the commandments which the Lᴏʀᴅ commanded Moses for the children of Israel on Mount Sinai.

¹A Psalm of David when he pretended madness before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed. I will bless the Lᴏʀᴅ at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. ²My soul shall make its boast in the Lᴏʀᴅ; The humble shall hear of it and be glad. ³Oh, magnify the Lᴏʀᴅ with me, And let us exalt His name together. ⁴I sought the Lᴏʀᴅ, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears. ⁵They looked to Him and were radiant, And their faces were not ashamed. ⁶This poor man cried out, and the Lᴏʀᴅ heard him, And saved him out of all his troubles. ⁷The angel of the Lᴏʀᴅ encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them. ⁸Oh, taste and see that the Lᴏʀᴅ is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! ⁹Oh, fear the Lᴏʀᴅ, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him. ¹⁰The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the Lᴏʀᴅ shall not lack any good thing. ¹¹Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lᴏʀᴅ. ¹²Who is the man who desires life, And loves many days, that he may see good? ¹³Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking deceit. ¹⁴Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it. ¹⁵The eyes of the Lᴏʀᴅ are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry. ¹⁶The face of the Lᴏʀᴅ is against those who do evil, To cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. ¹⁷The righteous cry out, and the Lᴏʀᴅ hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles. ¹⁸The Lᴏʀᴅ is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit. ¹⁹Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lᴏʀᴅ delivers him out of them all. ²⁰He guards all his bones; Not one of them is broken. ²¹Evil shall slay the wicked, And those who hate the righteous shall be condemned. ²²The Lᴏʀᴅ redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned.

¹Dead flies putrefy the perfumer’s ointment, And cause it to give off a foul odor; So does a little folly to one respected for wisdom and honor. ²A wise man’s heart is at his right hand, But a fool’s heart at his left. ³Even when a fool walks along the way, He lacks wisdom, And he shows everyone that he is a fool. ⁴If the spirit of the ruler rises against you, Do not leave your post; For conciliation pacifies great offenses. ⁵There is an evil I have seen under the sun, As an error proceeding from the ruler: ⁶Folly is set in great dignity, While the rich sit in a lowly place. ⁷I have seen servants on horses, While princes walk on the ground like servants. ⁸He who digs a pit will fall into it, And whoever breaks through a wall will be bitten by a serpent. ⁹He who quarries stones may be hurt by them, And he who splits wood may be endangered by it. ¹⁰If the ax is dull, And one does not sharpen the edge, Then he must use more strength; But wisdom brings success. ¹¹A serpent may bite when it is not charmed; The babbler is no different. ¹²The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious, But the lips of a fool shall swallow him up; ¹³The words of his mouth begin with foolishness, And the end of his talk is raving madness. ¹⁴A fool also multiplies words. No man knows what is to be; Who can tell him what will be after him? ¹⁵The labor of fools wearies them, For they do not even know how to go to the city! ¹⁶Woe to you, O land, when your king is a child, And your princes feast in the morning! ¹⁷Blessed are you, O land, when your king is the son of nobles, And your princes feast at the proper time— For strength and not for drunkenness! ¹⁸Because of laziness the building decays, And through idleness of hands the house leaks. ¹⁹A feast is made for laughter, And wine makes merry; But money answers everything. ²⁰Do not curse the king, even in your thought; Do not curse the rich, even in your bedroom; For a bird of the air may carry your voice, And a bird in flight may tell the matter.

¹But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: ²that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; ³the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— ⁴that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, ⁵to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. ⁶Likewise exhort the young men to be sober-minded, ⁷in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, ⁸sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you. ⁹Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back, ¹⁰not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things. ¹¹For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, ¹²teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, ¹³looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, ¹⁴who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. ¹⁵Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.
